Bonhoeffer is new to me, so thank you for sharing that. Your acceptance and willingness to share this new phase of life, the last phase on this side, is touching and genuine. I appreciate this so much.

Your thoughts here are beautiful, honest, poignant and oddly refreshing. You're right--it's unusual to come across clear minded acceptance of death, though it is one of only a few universal experiences among the living. I particularly loved this line "As you might guess I am grateful for every day, for what I can give to it, and take from it, even when it might be challenging." Thank you for that, for the W. Somerset Maugham piece, and for your life of curiosity and service. Wishing you so much joy in the coming days.

Thanks, Elizabeth, for your lovely response. You nailed me perfectly with my life of “curiosity and service.” I am just about to send a couple of books off to CA and NC and I am curious what might emerge from those two pebbles into the pond. Audacity and reciprocity! That’s me today.

Love that, Gary. Can't think of a better mix for right now than audacity and reciprocity.

A lovely piece, Gary, and I love that you quoted Bonhoeffer!

And a gathering of 28 of our children and grandchildren planned for April 19!? That's amazing. You are lucky indeed! I hope you have many, many days ahead filled with family and friendships, "meaningful connections, rich conversations, and unlimited opportunities for learning."

You deserve all that and more 💜

Thanks,Kristin. My take today is this: Time is our friend and we will have more good day greetings down the road. The sands of time may be running out but slowly enough to enjoy and celebrate the days that remain. Thus far, 32,045 days and still counting. Not only do i count every day, I try and make every day count too.

That’s a good way to look at it, Gary. My sister died at 52. With each of my birthdays, surprising as they are to me now that I’m as old as I am, I think how much she would have loved to reach the age I am.
